हार्ले डेविडसन और जनरल मोटर्स के बाद फोर्ड मोटर ने भारत में वाहन उत्पादन बंद किया
नई दिल्ली: भारत में अपनी पहचान बनाने के लिए लगभग तीन दशकों के संघर्ष के बाद अमेरिका की प्रमुख वाहन निर्माता फोर्ड मोटर कंपनी ने बृहस्पतिवार को कहा कि वह देश के अपने दो संयंत्रों में वाहन उत्पादन बंद कर देगी और केवल आयातित वाहनों को ही बेचेगी.
कंपनी, जिसने अपने चेन्नई (तमिलनाडु) और साणंद (गुजरात) संयंत्रों में लगभग 2.5 अरब डॉलर का निवेश किया है, उसे विगत 10 वर्षों के दौरान करीब दो अरब डॉलर का एकीकृत परिचालन नुकसान हुआ है.
कंपनी के इस फैसले से करीब 4,000 कर्मचारी और ऐसे 150 डीलर प्रभावित होंगे, जो करीब 300 बिक्री केंद्रों का कामकाज संभालते हैं.
हालांकि, यह अपने साणंद संयंत्र से इंजन का निर्माण जारी रखेगी, जिसे कंपनी के वैश्विक परिचालन के लिए निर्यात किया जाएगा.
वाहन विनिर्माण परिचालन को बंद करने के साथ यह प्रमुख वाहन निर्माता कंपनी इन संयंत्रों से उत्पादित इकोस्पोर्ट, फिगो और एस्पायर जैसे वाहनों की बिक्री बंद कर देगी.
एक घोषणा में फोर्ड ने कहा कि वह वर्ष 2021 की चौथी तिमाही तक साणंद में वाहन असेंबली और वर्ष 2022 की दूसरी तिमाही तक चेन्नई में वाहन और इंजन निर्माण के कार्य को बंद कर देगी.
फोर्ड मोटर कंपनी के अध्यक्ष और मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी जिम फ़ार्ले ने एक बयान में कहा, ‘हमारी फोर्ड प्लस योजना के हिस्से के रूप में हम दीर्घकालिक तौर पर टिकाऊ लाभदायक व्यवसाय करने के लिए कठिन, लेकिन आवश्यक कार्रवाई कर रहे हैं और अपनी पूंजी को सही क्षेत्रों में बढ़ने और मूल्य सृजित करने के लिए आवंटित कर रहे हैं.
उन्होंने कहा कि भारत में महत्वपूर्ण निवेश के बावजूद फोर्ड ने पिछले दस वर्षों में दो अरब डॉलर से अधिक का परिचालन घाटा उठाया है. उन्होंने कहा कि नए वाहनों की मांग पूर्वानुमान की तुलना में बहुत कमजोर रही है.
इस प्रमुख ऑटो निर्माता कंपनी ने कहा कि वह देश में अपनी फोर्ड बिजनेस समाधान क्षमताओं और टीम के साथ-साथ निर्यात के लिए इंजीनियरिंग और इंजन निर्माण पर ध्यान केंद्रित करेगी.
मौजूदा समय में भारत में 11,000 से अधिक टीम सदस्यों के साथ, फोर्ड बिजनेस सॉल्यूशंस की योजना सॉफ्टवेयर डेवलपर्स, डेटा वैज्ञानिकों, आरएंडडी इंजीनियरों और वित्त और लेखा पेशेवरों के लिए और अधिक अवसर प्रदान करने के लिए विस्तार करने की है, ताकि फोर्ड प्लस योजना के समर्थन में फोर्ड को वैश्विक स्तर पर बदलने और आधुनिक बनाने के प्रयास का समर्थन किया जा सके.
एक आभासी संवाददाता सम्मेलन को संबोधित करते हुए फोर्ड इंडिया के अध्यक्ष और प्रबंध निदेशक अनुराग मेहरोत्रा ने कहा कि कंपनी को भारत में वाहन निर्माण में निवेश जारी रखने के लिए उसके लिए आवश्यक है कि निवेश पर उचित लाभ प्राप्ति का रास्ता दिखाए.
उन्होंने कहा, ‘दुर्भाग्य से हम ऐसा करने में सक्षम नहीं हैं और अब हमारे पास भारत में व्यवसाय के पुनर्गठन के अलावा कोई अन्य विकल्प नहीं बचा है.’
जब उनसे रोजगार गंवाने वाले कर्मचारियों को कंपनी द्वारा दिए जाने वाले विच्छेद पैकेज के बारे में पूछा गया तो मेहरोत्रा ने कहा कि प्रभावित कर्मचारियों को ‘एक समान और उचित पैकेज की पेशकश की जाएगी.’
फोर्ड इंडिया के पास सालाना 6,10,000 इंजन और 4,40,000 वाहनों की स्थापित विनिर्माण क्षमता है.
इंडियन एक्सप्रेस की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, मिशिगन के डरबन में मुख्यालय वाली फोर्ड केवल 20 फीसदी इकाइयों के साथ काम कर रही थी, जिसमें से आधा निर्यात किया जा रहा था.
कंपनी ने फिगो, एस्पायर और इकोस्पोर्ट जैसे अपने मॉडलों को दुनिया भर के 70 से अधिक बाजारों में निर्यात किया है.
इस साल जनवरी में फोर्ड मोटर कंपनी और महिंद्रा एंड महिंद्रा ने अपने पूर्व में घोषित वाहन संयुक्त उद्यम को समाप्त करने और भारत में स्वतंत्र परिचालन जारी रखने का फैसला किया था.
बता दें कि देश में 1991 में उदारीकरण की शुरुआत के बाद फोर्ड मोटर कंपनी पहली वैश्विक कार निर्माता कंपनी थी, जिसने भारत में अपना कदम रखा था.
बता दें कि भारतीय बाजार पर जापान की मारुति सुजुकी और दक्षिण कोरिया की ह्यूंडई मोटर का दबदबा है, जो मिलाकर 60 फीसदी की हिस्सेदारी रखती हैं. हालांकि, पिछले कुछ सालों में ह्यूंडई की सहयोगी किया मोटर्स और चीन के एमजी मोटर ने अपवाद के तहत महत्वपूर्ण जगहें बनाने में कामयाबी पाई है.
जनरल मोटर्स के बाद भारत में कारखाना बंद करने वाली फोर्ड दूसरी अमेरिकी वाहन कंपनी है. वर्ष 2017 में जनरल मोटर्स ने घोषणा की थी कि वह भारत में वाहनों की बिक्री बंद कर देगी, क्योंकि दो दशकों से अधिक समय तक संघर्ष करने के बाद भी उसकी स्थिति में कोई बदलाव नहीं आया है.
वहीं, पिछले साल सितंबर में अमेरिकी मोटरसाइकिल कंपनी हार्ले-डेविडसन ने हरियाणा के बावल में स्थित अपने उत्पादन केंद्र को बंद करने की घोषणा की थी. इसके साथ ही उसने गुड़गांव में अपने सेल्स ऑपरेशन को भी छोटा कर दिया था.
